If you are arriving in Canada without a job, this is going to be tough! Please don't lose heart, I have been here two weeks and they tell me that the initial few steps are going to be hard. Be prepared for this they say and it is a matter of time before you get your big break. So I'm waiting patiently, though, I must admit that at times it can really get to you.
You have to start from scratch, you have to forget about all the levels that you jumped in your home country. Though this is not always the case, I am sure there have been people who have got roles similar to those they performed back home. I am not one of those yet!
So, I have been applying to every company that I think would be a great place to work in and my resume has been edited several times to meet Canadian standards. Please ensure that your resume is not more than two pages and lists more of your achievements than your experience in different companies. These are valuable tips that I have got from several people.
I've been to four interviews thus far and they all want to hire me. You will say that is a good thing! Nope! It isn't, all the jobs that I have been interviewed for are door-to-door or business-to-business marketing. Not something, I did back home, Not something, I am going to do here! You may think that you should take whatever comes your way and I am being pricey, however, that shouldn't always be the case. (At this stage, I apologise to those whose profession is door-to-door marketing). Be patient!
