Downtown Toronto

We visited downtown Toronto, the heart of city for the first time (or at least) my first time today. Melissa has been here before and the first structure that identifies downtown Toronto is the CN Tower.
As we drive into the heart of the city we pass the BMO field (home of Toronto FC - MLS) and also the venue for the finals of the FIFA Under 20 World Cup. It is amazing because just across the BMO field, a few blocks away is the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays (baseball) and across the street is the Air Canada Center, home of the Toronto Raptors (basketball). I was almost in heaven, so many sports venues at a stone's throw from each other. Sadly, I couldn't visit them yet, I will do so in the months to come and this is the place where you can read all about my experiences.

Today, we were doing the tourist things and visited Nathan Philips Square that is bang in between the old and new City Hall buildings. The old one an architectural delight, the new one, a modern semi circular glass and stone building. In between the two buildings is a water body that is quite dirty in the summer, however, in winter it is frozen for ice skating. Now, that will be a sight to see!
We walk past Nathan Philips Square to enter the Eaton Centre, a mall that stretches across several blocks and streets. It touches Yonge Street which incidentally is the longest street in the world. There is a great buzz downtown with several festivals and concerts on each weekend. Today, Nathan Philips Square was hosting a Thai festival. We walked across to Dundas Sqaure from Eaton Mall and this is on Dundas Street which is the largest street in Ontario where we find a Bangladeshi festival.

We continue our walk and go past several historic buildings and places of interest, many of which I didn't really catch as it is my first visit Downtown. I hope to have some more details of the places I visit in my future visits here.
